Work Hard – Celebrate!
As an Association we have the work hard part down very well. This year has been full of exploration and a lot of firsts for our executive. We have planned and created Association independence as it relates to finances, and the management of our membership with the Teacher’s Pension Plan. This has required vast amounts of time and focus from all members of our executive, and we that thank them immensely for their individual contributions to rebalance the strength of our Association as a vibrant provincial partner in the education field.
We appreciate everyone who has stepped up to provide us with information and stories for our quarterly newsletter. We are transitioning our presence as a provincial organization as we shift our focus to ‘pulling in’ our members to our website. There is a lot of relevant and timely information on our website that members need to be more aware of. Over the summer, on our website, we will be reworking our information collection and distribution site to more effectively bring you the recordings of our guest speakers.
We are excited to be a part of Vancouver Island University’s search for field advisors for placement around our province. I have reached out to the Field Advising center and encouraged them to use our organization as a ‘search’ opportunity for needed field advisors in the future.
Celebrate was the focus of our Annual General Meeting in May. We had over twenty members in person and on zoom! This was an amazing show of support for our Association, and a wonderful way to celebrate the past year and the year to come. We thanked Christine Johnson and Ted St. Pierre for their years of service to our Association. Both members have decided to step aside from the executive so they can focus more on the pressing personal commitments that they both have. We thank them immensely for their dedicated service to the Association. We welcome new members Heidi Grant and Elaine Thompson to the executive.
Following our AGM, Lanny Young and Sandra Kinnon organized a scrumptious luncheon for everyone to enjoy. We welcomed five members from the BCPVPA office, including the executive director, Scott Robinson, to join our celebration.
We have lots of exciting speakers in the plans for next year. We are also going to be using Monkey Survey to reach out and get some feedback on matters directly connected to individual Association members. We look forward to more connections with everyone around the province. Have a wonderful summer and travel safely! We look forward to reconnecting in the fall!
Best wishes,
Deborah Luporini
