Classrooms Without Walls
This is Canadian nonprofit that provides free online education and leadership opportunities to students living in conflict zones including Ukraine, Afghanistan, and Myanmar.
Since March 2022, tens of thousands of students have participated in our programs, which include English classes, youth leadership initiatives, mentorship, and special projects designed to give hope and opportunity through education. Many of our students continue learning while facing war, displacement, poverty, school closures, and uncertainty about their futures. For them, an online class is more than a lesson, it is a lifeline, a sense of normalcy, and a reminder that people around the world care about them. Our current focus is expanding access to qualified volunteer teachers, mentors, and guest speakers who can support students online.
Retired teachers and administrators have something uniquely valuable to offer. A lifetime of experience, wisdom, patience, and compassion can make a profound difference for a young person whose education has been interrupted by crisis. Sometimes what students need most is a caring adult who will listen, encourage them, and help them believe in their future again.

Volunteers can help in a variety of ways depending on their background and availability. This may include teaching conversational English, Math, Sciences, mentoring youth, assisting with program coordination, speaking to students about careers or life experiences, or helping with outreach and fundraising. Even one hour a week can make a meaningful difference in a student’s life.
